Simple ways to impress this Father's Day

Father's day is fast approaching (Sunday 6th September in case you want to put it in your calendar) and it's time to think about how to impress your Dad or husband. It doesn't have to be extravagent either. At the end of the day, the whole point is to show him he is valued and loved.

So here are some considerations when you are making your plans:

WHAT DOES HE ENJOYING DOING?

What does he like to do? What is his favourite way to relax? You don't need to schedule back to back activities all day. If the guy loves a sleep in, don't make cafe plans for breakfast and let him sleep in! Perhaps he is a movie fan, in which case, go to the cinema where he can pick the movie and perhaps spring for gold class with a cold beer. If he loves nature or the beach, take him. The day is about not having to work and taking the time to enjoy some time off.

THE WAY TO HIS HEART IS THROUGH HIS BELLY

There is no denying this - men love food. They have favourite foods too, so incorporate them into the day. Factor in all his food vices. If he loves meat pies, get some amazing ones from a good quality bakery. If he has a favourite sweet, get it. There shouldn't be any food rules for this one day. For my Dad, it's liquorice, chocolate bullets and maybe some potato scallops along the way. Easily pleased :)

SPEND TIME WITH HIM

Father's Day exists for him because he is a Dad. So at the end of the day, this is what it is all about - celebrating family. As life seems to get busier and busier, it's easy to slacken off on spending quality time together. Take this opportunity to clear your calendar to hang out. If you don't live in the same city, send him something, or organise an activity he can do that day - book tickets to something, send him for a massage, sports game tickets...

TELL HIM HOW MUCH HE MEANS TO YOU

This one won't cost you a cent but will have the biggest impact. If you are not a heart on your sleeve type of person, write it in a card. Whichever way you are comfortable telling him, tell him. It will mean the world to him!

If you are stuck on what to buy him, of course the Man Mail shop is here to help. If you need some extra assistance, have a read of this article '3 things to consider when buying for a man'.

As you can probably guess, this is my amazing Dad. He has the biggest heart in the world, is a great man, works his ass off, still calls me Katie Girl, still goes to hold my hand when we cross a road, loves me unconditionally and gives the best hugs. I'm grateful every day that he is my Dad.

Enjoy Father's Day - and remember, we wouldn't be here without our Dad's.
